What makes your venue the Best Gastropub in New Zealand?

We are one of a select small number Monteith's Gastro bars serving 16 lines of fresh beer, such as Heineken, Tiger, Tuatara and a full range of Monteith's craft beers. We serve both a standard pint and a true English Imperial pint.

We believe we offer value of money, excellent customer service and a varied selection of fine food with some of the best steaks in Tauranga serving generous portions. Staff are friendly and professional offering full table service in a warm, casual and inviting atmosphere with both inside and outside dining available. Excellent views to the inter Tauranga harbour. We do not create problems, we solve them. Always flexible to the customer's needs, including a wide range of dietary requirements available. If it's not on our menu and we have the ingredients we will make it!

Describe the experience your customers have at your establishment – what is your food and beverage offering and why do people come back for more?

We offer a wide selection of beverages, including wines, cocktails, beers and zero or low alcohol drinks. Our food would sit well in any fine dining establishment and we are always happy to cater to special needs and events. Dining is casual with full table service available both inside, on our covered veranda and outside for El Frisco dining. Food offering include high end burgers, pizzas, steaks, and a fine selection of snack and sharing plates. We have a regular following of clients who come to The Phoenix as a destination to enjoy our offerings. Sport is always on our three large screens and we feature such games as the All Blacks, All Whites, Cricket, Super Bowl, etc

Tell us how you showcase NZ produce / offerings? Does your menu change with the season and how is it locally influenced. How do you accommodate allergy and dietary requirements?

Our menu is refreshed twice yearly, winter and summer. Subject to cost we source our food products locally, always happy to support local, subject to cost. We have separate facilities to cater for Gluten Free (including a 'Gluten Free' fryer) and other dietary or allergy requirements. We allergies we advise our guests of the limitations of our kitchen regarding possible cross contamination.

What are your key points of difference and how have you managed to deliver them?

Service, service, service, always with a warm friendly smile. Front of House staff deliver menus and bottled filtered water to every table on arrival. Customer are never pressured to order while we discretely ensure there drinks and needs are catered for.

Please describe your commitment to sustainability.

We endeavour to operate a zero-waste policy, largely the only food waste is what is returned from the guest plate. This all goes to the 'pig bin' to help feed a local pig farmer animal's. Regrettably, as much as we would like to, we currently do not have availability in Tauranga to recycle glass and cans. Wine bottle tops are collected on behalf of Tauranga Lions to aid Kids for Cancer by recovering the Titanium. It's a little but it's a start.

Please describe how you create ambience.

We employ AMS music systems to provide our background music. We have a preset selection such as light jazz of an evening. We do have the ability to overide this as needs demand. Every Sunday we have three hours of live music from local entertainers.
