What makes your venue the Best Gastropub in New Zealand?

The Old Bailey is a well-established venue within Wellington. We pride ourselves on providing delicious food with a broad menu catering for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We strive to excel in our customer service and interactions through going above and beyond to ensure our customers have the best well rounded experience.

Describe the experience your customers have at your establishment – what is your food and beverage offering and why do people come back for more?

Modern New Zealand food within a traditional older style pub. We are consistent in what we offer and our customers come back mostly on a daily or weekly basis as they enjoy the friendly customer service, good portions sizes and variety of food. We have a great selection of New Zealand craft beers and wine.

Tell us how you showcase NZ produce / offerings? Does your menu change with the season and how is it locally influenced. How do you accommodate allergy and dietary requirements?

Our menu changes seasonally also show casing daily specials using local fish straight from the boat. We use service foods wellington for all our veg. Meats are from locally sourced cattle and livestock. We provide great allergen friendly dishes.

What are your key points of difference and how have you managed to deliver them?

Aside from the surrounding venues we are one of the earliest to open in the area in order to cater for the breakfast demand, due to being central and close to the train station. We serve breakfast from 7am Monday - Friday and 9am on the weekend, followed by our lunch menu from 11.30am. We appeal to a wider audience due to being centrally located within the business district, offering casual dining in a timely manner with a friendly atmosphere.

Please describe your commitment to sustainability.

We as a company are big on sustainability and pride ourselves on this. Using all local suppliers and in season products. Also using fish that is sustainable with the menu stating market fish which changes daily.

Please describe how you create ambience.

Dependent on the time of the day depends on the different music types in which we choose to cater for our audience. We also have the capability to play lives sport with sound. We have a popular weekly Quiz every Tuesday with a large amount of regular bookings who enjoy the welcoming atmosphere, for this we have new audio systems/ microphones in place.
