What makes your venue the Best Gastropub in New Zealand?

Our Serious FUN Menu and local offerings for our local community are a couple of the reasons we feel that we are up there with the best; we have something for every occasion. From Little Mo's ice cream window to beautiful ocean views in the Horizon bar, live sports in Neptune's bar, and nine gaming machines to a beautiful 64-seat dining setting indoors plus garden bars.

We are truly community-focused and try to be more than just a place for food and beverage. We built papa Mo's to be a part of a growing community, and it's an integral part of the social Hub of Golden Sands/Papamoa East.

 

Describe the experience your customers have at your establishment – what is your food and beverage offering and why do people come back for more?

Papa Mo's is the Home of Serious FUN, so we aim to provide an environment for the whole community to enjoy for every occasion, from first dates to watching live sports, a private function celebrating a 40th birthday to casual cocktails and catch-ups with friends. Our menu has a huge range to cater to most, and alongside a wide range of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, we leave room for our guests always to be coming back for more serious FUN.

Tell us how you showcase NZ produce / offerings? Does your menu change with the season and how is it locally influenced. How do you accommodate allergy and dietary requirements?

Throughout our menus, we use local products where possible, from the bakery next door or now down the road to fresh produce like limes and lemons. this has been the way since we built Papa Mos; as the community is so important to us, we have always aimed to use BOP local, and if that's not possible, then NZ local companies that align with our brand.

Our food menu has also always had a large selection of GF and DF options, plus V and VE items throughout, to cater to a diverse range of customers. We strive to make sure this offering is always at the forefront of our seasonal menu changes as well as FUN and innovative food ideas.

we also put together limited menus like Seafood Month and run them for the month of March, for example. Plus more, etc, like five course degustations matched with wines.

 
 

What are your key points of difference and how have you managed to deliver them?

Our fun brand is a large part of our difference as we aim to be a social hub for the community, with a large offering of both beverages and food we cater for as many as possible.

Our horizon bar views on the balcony help us stand out from the rest with Ocean and Papamoa hill views and stunning sunsets. Not to mention our iconic building as you drive along Papamoa Beach Road. topped off with daily rituals like our Rib Night just on a Thursday, it is pretty famous in Golden Sands.

Tell us about your commitments to Customer Service and Host Responsibility

Service sits high on our standards; an aim with all our guests as part of our values is "exceeding guest’s expectations every time". From the service, venue feel and look to the product we serve and if it is "Instagramable".

We work very hard to build a local base of regular guests through great interaction with everyone where we can and also by having a loyalty program in place.

It is free to join and lets us communicate directly with our guests about what is happening in monthly newsletters. They receive points for spending money (value for money) and also get an extra hour of happy hour with the VIP loyalty card.

Their names are displayed on the till when scanning the card, allowing the team to interact with them using their name to make them always feel welcome.

Please describe your commitment to sustainability

everywhere we can we look to ensure we are using products that are sustainable in all things like napkins, straws and takeaway boxes. all our old oil is removed from site and sent away to be used in other operations to try minimize waste here. we also always consider/support products and companies that are also try to be sustainable ie just bring a boxed wine onto the menu for summer. as carboard better than bottles for sustainability and we love this idea from a wine maker.

Please describe how you create ambience.

Papa Mo's is designed to accommodate different occasions from our different areas, we have separate spaces to allow no interruptions for our guests from our dining room, Neptune's sports bar, Horizon bar and also our ice cream window (Little Mo). We can have live sports games on and a private function up stairs. Plus a full dining room with different ambience in each area to fit the occasion and what is happening that night. all areas have their own lighting and music volumes that are controllable to allow different feelings throughout each area.
